things to gather together for this course

Welcome to salvage sketchbooks, I have had such a glorious time putting this course together and I am absolutely delighted that you are here.

Whether you plan to be settling into the window seat on a train or plane, or are plumping the cushions in your faithful armchair, I know you will find the adventure useful.

The materials /supplies you will need are very simple, and I am confident that most of you will find them somewhere in your home.

Equipment

sewing machine

scissors

old ice cube trays OR the lids from scrap bottles, or small food containers (such as fish cans, sour cream tubs and so on)

bulldog or box clips can be useful to hold things together

a bone folder OR an old soup spoon (for burnishing and pressing)

a small mortar and pestle

a small sharp knife

a cutting mat OR old chopping board

Consumables

sticks, feathers, rags etc for making a few brushes and drawing tools

plain flour OR potato flour OR compostable packing peanuts (for making glue)...or use a glue stick (I will never know unless you tell me)

any papers used/marked (or not) that are taking up space in the studio

"unsuccessful" drawings and paintings that can be cut up for pages or for collage

old envelopes (carefully opened with a letter-opener or knife)

old books that you no longer want to read, that can be taken apart (preferably with matte paper surfaces)

cardboard from cartons or paper drawing pads, small boxes that foods such as cornflour are sold in

scrap cloth for covers, sewing threads

India ink, pencils, watercolours, charcoal, graphite...basically whatever you like to write and draw with

leaves (scented ones are likely to be most rewarding), berries, onionshells, used teabags

small rusty items (can lids, paperclips, things with interesting shapes)
