things to gather together

In this course you will be modifying a t-shirt by adding pieces of cloth to create a dress.

In the process you may find yourself considering different forms and shapes and may want to spend some time sketching out your ideas.

This can be done with simple tools such as paper and pencil, but can also extend to using creative software such as the Brushes Redux app that will enable you to draw onto photographic images to see how a particular shape might look on your body.

At very least I would recommend having some inexpensive drawing paper to hand, along with some softish pencils (I generally use Palomino graphite pencils equivalent in softness to a 3B).

YOU WILL ALSO NEED

the Beautiful Silks kit that has been prepared for this course

or

a t-shirt (preferably natural fibre) and

at least 1.5 metres (or about 60 inches) of cloth at least 90 cm (or 36 inches) wide

or

the equivalent in cloth that can be pieced together

AND

safety pins (I prefer the bent ones that quilters use) or dressmaking pins

hand-sewing needles and threads (you may prefer to use a sewing machine :: and you'll definitely want one if making the pieced version)

scissors

ecoprint or undyed natural fibre scraps for embellishments and trims
